У болгарському Пловдиві з 17 по 22 грудня 2025 року відбувся 29-й фестиваль «Золотий ритон» (Golden Rhyton Film Festival) — провідний національний форум документального та анімаційного кіно Болгарії, що зібрав десятки стрічок у конкурсних і спеціальних програмах. За підсумками офіційної церемонії нагороди були присуджені таким фільмам і авторам: Головну нагороду за найкращий документальний фільм отримала стрічка «Жорсткий шлях» (The Cruel Path) режисера Деяна Берарева (Deyan Bararev) — робота, присвячена болгарській експедиції на Еверест 1984 року та темам пам’яті й людської витривалості.
Головну нагороду за найкращий анімаційний фільм здобула стрічка «Балконада» (Balkonada) режисерки Іви Томакчієвої (Iva Tomakchieva), яка також була відзначена нагородою за режисуру.
Нагороду за режисуру в документальному кіно журі присудило режисерові Светославу Драганову (Svetoslav Draganov) за фільм «Снежа і Франц» (Snezha and Franz).
Серед спеціальних відзнак — нагорода «Академія 21» (Academia 21) для документального фільму «Сізіф» (Sisyphus), приз за сценарій для стрічки «Петко Венедиков: спогади з болгарського ХХ століття» (Petko Venedikov: Memories from Bulgaria’s 20th Century), а також дебютні нагороди в анімаційній категорії, які отримали Таня Божилова та Невена Семова. Окремі спеціальні призи від професійних і муніципальних інституцій дістали фільми «Бабуся» (The Granny) та «Собака Златю» (Zlatyu’s Dog).
Кінокритики зазначають, що програма фестивалю «Золотий ритон» 2025 рокупродемонструвала зростання соціальної чутливості та художньої сміливості болгарського документального кіно. Стрічку «Жорсткий шлях» (The Cruel Path) вирізняли за здатність поєднати історичний матеріал із глибоко особистою оповіддю, тоді як анімаційний конкурс отримав високу оцінку за жанрову й візуальну різноманітність. «Балконаду» (Balkonada), зокрема, відзначали за яскраву образність і чітку авторську мову, що свідчить про конкурентоспроможність болгарської анімації на міжнародному рівні.
Журі фестивалю наголосило, що «Золотий ритон» залишається важливим інструментом підтримки як визнаних митців, так і нових голосів у документальному та анімаційному кіно. Попри національний фокус, фестиваль дедалі активніше інтегрується в європейський культурний контекст, сприяючи міжнародним копродукціям і професійним контактам.
Golden Rhyton Film Festival 2025 in Plovdiv: Results and Award Winners
From 17 to 22 December 2025, the 29th Golden Rhyton Film Festival took place in the Bulgarian city of Plovdiv. The festival is the country’s leading national forum dedicated to documentary and animated cinema, bringing together dozens of films in competitive and special programmes. Following the official awards ceremony on 22 December, prizes were granted to the following films and creators. The main award for Best Documentary Film was given to The Cruel Path, directed by Deyan Berarev. The film explores the Bulgarian expedition to Mount Everest in 1984 and reflects on themes of memory and human endurance.
The main award for Best Animated Film went to Balkonada by director Iva Tomakchieva, who was also honoured with the award for directing.
The award for Best Director in Documentary Cinema was presented to Svetoslav Draganov for the film Snezha and Franz.
Among the special awards, the Academia 21 Award was given to the documentary Sisyphus. The Screenplay Award went to Petko Venedikov: Memories from Bulgaria’s 20th Century. Debut awards in the animation category were presented to Tanya Bozhilova and Nevena Semova. Additional special prizes from professional and municipal institutions were awarded to The Granny and Zlatyu’s Dog.
Film critics noted that the Golden Rhyton 2025 programme demonstrated a growing level of social sensitivity and artistic boldness in Bulgarian documentary cinema. The Cruel Path was singled out for its ability to combine historical material with a deeply personal narrative, while the animation competition received high praise for its genre and visual diversity. Balkonada, in particular, was highlighted for its vivid imagery and clear authorial voice, underscoring the international competitiveness of Bulgarian animation. The festival jury emphasised that Golden Rhyton remains an important instrument for supporting both established filmmakers and emerging voices in documentary and animated cinema. Despite its national focus, the festival is increasingly integrating into the European cultural context, fostering international co-productions and professional exchange.
