Підставою стала американська серіальна продукція The Librarians: Next Chapter (Бібліотекарі: Нова глава), значна частина якої знімалася в історичному центрі міста, зокрема біля Народного театру, Військового музею, на вулиці Князя Михайла, а також у Калемегданській фортеці, біля церкви Святого Марка, у районі Звездарської обсерваторії, Білого двору та легендарного Плавого поїзда. Саме поєднання історичної спадщини та сучасного міського простору привернуло увагу міжнародної продюсерської команди. У фінальному шортлисті конкурсу Белград змагається з Ла-Пальмою в Іспанії, Фігейра-да-Фош у Португалії, Інарі у Фінляндії та Цанґергаузеном у Німеччині. Переможця оголосять у лютому 2026 року під час Берлінського міжнародного кінофестивалю. У Сербській кіноасоціації наголошують, що ця номінація має символічне значення: протягом багатьох років Белград «грав» інші європейські столиці, а нині дедалі частіше з’являється на екрані у власній ролі. За її словами, проєкт Бібліотекарі вдало поєднав кінематографічну оповідь із локальною культурою та міфологією, зокрема мотивами сербської епічної фантастики. The Librarians: Next Chapter є продовженням популярної франшизи, створеної Джоном Роджерсом і показаної на каналі TNT у 2014–2018 роках. У новій частині глядачі стежать за бібліотекарем із XIX століття, який через подорож у часі опиняється в сучасному Белграді. Головну роль виконує Каллум Макґовен. Зростаючий інтерес міжнародних студій до Сербії відповідає глобальній тенденції пошуку нових, ще не «виснажених» екранами локацій. Додатковим чинником є державні фінансові стимули: продакшни можуть отримати повернення до 25 відсотків кваліфікованих витрат, а для проєктів із бюджетом понад п’ять мільйонів євро — до 30 відсотків. Белград також приваблює розвиненою готельною інфраструктурою, професійними знімальними командами та комфортними умовами для міжнародних зірок.
Serbia’s Capital Nominated for the European Film Award EUFCN Location Award 2025
Belgrade has once again found itself at the center of attention of the European and global film industry. The Serbian capital has been nominated for the EUFCN Location Award 2025, a prestigious European distinction recognizing outstanding film locations and effective cooperation with international productions. The nomination follows the American television series The Librarians: Next Chapter, much of which was filmed in the historic heart of the city, including the National Theatre, the Military Museum, Knez Mihailova Street, Kalemegdan Fortress, the Church of St. Mark, the Zvezdara Observatory, the White Palace, and the iconic Blue Train. It was precisely this combination of historical heritage and contemporary urban space that attracted the attention of the international production team. In the final shortlist, Belgrade is competing with La Palma in Spain, Figueira da Foz in Portugal, Inari in Finland, and Sangerhausen in Germany. The winner will be announced in February 2026 during the Berlin International Film Festival. Representatives of the Serbian Film Association emphasize that the nomination is highly symbolic. For many years, Belgrade often played other European capitals on screen, whereas today it is increasingly appearing as itself. According to the Association, the Librarians project successfully integrates cinematic storytelling with local culture and mythology, drawing in particular on motifs from Serbian epic fantasy. The Librarians: Next Chapter is a continuation of the popular franchise created by John Rogers and broadcast on TNT between 2014 and 2018. In the new installment, audiences follow a 19th-century librarian who, through time travel, finds himself in present-day Belgrade. The lead role is played by Callum McGowan. The growing interest of international studios in Serbia reflects a global trend toward discovering new, less overused filming locations. State financial incentives also play an important role: productions can receive rebates of up to 25 percent of eligible costs, and up to 30 percent for projects with budgets exceeding five million euros. Belgrade is further attracting film crews with its developed hotel infrastructure, experienced professional teams, and comfortable conditions for international stars.
