Колекція історичних годинників палацу Топкапи — однієї з найцінніших у світі: понад триста експонатів, створених османськими майстрами та європейськими годинникарями XVIII–XIX століть, представлять у новому Музеї годинників під назвою «Час і мистецтво в палаці Топкапи». Експозицію розмістили у відреставрованій залі колишніх королівських стаєнь Has Ahırlar. За словами голови управління Національних палаців Туреччини Ясіна Їлдиза, це перша настільки масштабна презентація колекції, що раніше була доступна лише дослідникам. Більшість годинників — це унікальні зразки, єдині у своєму роді. Їхня цінність не лише у механізмі, а й у мистецькому оздобленні. Ця виставка покаже Топкапи як скарбницю часу. Серед найцінніших експонатів — настінні та підлогові годинники з інкрустацією перламутром і сріблом, механічні годинники із музичними механізмами, а також кишенькові хронометри з тонким гравіюванням і мініатюрними портретами султанів. Особливий інтерес викликають творіння османських майстрів Ахмеда Ефлакі Деде та Сулеймана Лезіза, які вважаються піонерами турецького годинникарства. Завдяки сучасним технологіям консервації та реставрації колекція отримала «друге життя». Усі експонати представлено в новому освітленні та із поясненнями щодо історичного контексту, технології виготовлення і декоративних особливостей. Палац Топкапи, який понад чотири століття був резиденцією османських султанів, зберігає одну з найвишуканіших у світі колекцій годинників. Її відкриття для публіки стало не лише важливою подією для Туреччини, а й визначною подією у міжнародному музейному календарі.
A new Clock Museum opens at Topkapi Palace in Istanbul: a unique collection unveiled to the public for the first time
For the first time, visitors to Istanbul will be able to see the unique collection of historical clocks from Topkapi Palace — one of the most valuable in the world. More than three hundred pieces, crafted by Ottoman masters and European clockmakers of the 18th and 19th centuries, are being presented in the newly inaugurated Clock Museum titled “Time and Art at Topkapi Palace.” The exhibition is housed in the restored Has Ahırlar Hall — the former royal stables — which has now been transformed into a modern museum space. According to Dr. Yasin Yıldız, President of the Turkish National Palaces Administration, this is the first large-scale public presentation of the collection, which until now had been accessible only to researchers. “Most of these clocks are one-of-a-kind masterpieces. Their value lies not only in their mechanisms but also in their artistic craftsmanship. This exhibition will reveal Topkapi as a true treasury of time,” Yıldız noted. Among the highlights are wall and floor clocks inlaid with mother-of-pearl and silver, mechanical clocks featuring musical mechanisms, and pocket chronometers adorned with fine engravings and miniature portraits of Ottoman sultans. Particularly remarkable are the works of Ottoman masters Ahmed Eflaki Dede and Süleyman Leziz, considered pioneers of Turkish horology. Thanks to modern conservation and restoration technologies, the collection has been given a “second life.” Each piece is displayed with new lighting and detailed explanations of its historical context, craftsmanship, and artistic features. Topkapi Palace, which served as the residence of Ottoman sultans for over four centuries, preserves one of the world’s most exquisite clock collections. Its public unveiling marks not only a major cultural event for Turkey but also a significant addition to the international museum calendar.
