Дискусії довкола Kneecap посилилися після того, як один з учасників колективу постане перед британським судом за обвинуваченням у демонстрації символіки «Хезболли» під час концерту в Лондоні торік. Раніше гурт вже зазнавав критики через висловлювання на фестивалях, зокрема на Coachella у США, де музиканти звинуватили Ізраїль у «геноциді палестинського народу». Через резонансні заяви Kneecap відмовили у виступах на фестивалях у Німеччині та Австрії, а уряд Угорщини на три роки заборонив їм в’їзд у країну. Попри це, колектив продовжує турне Європою: концерти відбулися у Польщі, Фінляндії, Норвегії та Бельгії, а наступні шоу заплановані у Копенгагені та Амстердамі, де квитки вже розпродано. Керівники концертних майданчиків у Данії та Нідерландах заявляють, що дотримуються принципу свободи слова й дозволяють «гострі голоси» в культурному просторі, водночас наголошуючи на дотриманні законодавства.
Irish band Kneecap continues European tour despite bans and canceled concerts
The Irish hip-hop trio Kneecap has not been stopped by either a ban on entering Hungary or canceled shows in Austria and Germany. On Sunday, the musicians performed at one of France’s largest festivals — Rock en Seine near Paris, which gathered around 40,000 spectators. France’s Ministry of the Interior allowed the concert, stating that there were no grounds to expect “serious public order disturbances.” At the same time, the ministry emphasized that in the event of any misconduct, the band would be held accountable under the law. Debate around Kneecap has intensified after one of the group’s members was set to appear before a British court, accused of displaying Hezbollah symbols during a London concert last year. The band had previously faced criticism for statements made at festivals, including Coachella in the United States, where they accused Israel of committing “genocide against the Palestinian people.” Due to such controversial remarks, Kneecap was barred from performing at festivals in Germany and Austria, while Hungary’s government banned their entry into the country for three years. Nevertheless, the group continues its European tour: concerts have already taken place in Poland, Finland, Norway, and Belgium, with upcoming shows in Copenhagen and Amsterdam — both already sold out. Organizers of concert venues in Denmark and the Netherlands stated they adhere to the principle of freedom of expression and allow “sharp voices” in cultural spaces, while underscoring the importance of complying with the law.
