Tenor Xabier Anduaga to Make His First Appearance in Teatro Real’s Christmas Gala Recital
Madrid’s Teatro Real will present its traditional Christmas gala programme, with the central highlight being the first solo concert appearance of Spanish tenor Xabier Anduaga on the theatre’s stage in recital format. For Anduaga, the evening carries particular significance: until now, he has appeared at Teatro Real exclusively in fully staged opera productions. In recent years, the singer has taken part in five major projects at the house, including Viva la mamma, Lakmé, La sonnambula, Rigoletto and La traviata. The Christmas concert will present him for the first time in a more intimate, yet no less demanding, concert setting. The programme is conceived as a journey through European vocal traditions from the second half of the nineteenth to the early twentieth century. It brings together Italian, German and French repertoire, allowing audiences to trace the evolution of Romantic singing beyond the boundaries of classical bel canto. A special place is given to Spanish lyrical works, including examples of zarzuela, underscoring the country’s musical identity. Anduaga will be joined on stage by pianist Maciej Pikulski, marking their first collaboration before an audience. The programme includes works in which the piano functions as an equal partner to the voice, notably in compositions by Franz Liszt. Teatro Real has highlighted Anduaga’s exceptional vocal qualities, pointing to the brightness and evenness of his timbre, the strength of his upper register and his ability to combine technical virtuosity with lyrical intimacy.
