Морські ворота Корфу теж не відстають: лише за січень–квітень 2025 року тут пришвартувалося 64 круїзні судна з майже 89 тисячами туристів — приріст +79% до минулого року. А на осінь заплановано ще понад 110 лайнерів. Результат — переповнені вулички історичного центру (під охороною ЮНЕСКО), транспортні колапси, напруга в роботі комунальної інфраструктури. У 2024-му муніципалітет навіть оголосив надзвичайний стан через посуху, а влітку 2025-го уряд виділив кошти на водогосподарські проєкти, щоб хоч частково зняти пікове навантаження на постачання води. Влада острова змінює правила гри — робить ставку на заможних туристів і преміальний сегмент. П’ятизіркові готелі, бутик-проживання та індивідуальні тури мають зменшити масовість без втрати прибутку. Додатково Греція запроваджує новий збір з круїзних пасажирів і готує обмеження на кількість висадок у популярних портах. Місцеві жителі не мовчать — вони приєднуються до загальноєвропейських протестів проти туристичної навали, вимагаючи жорстких лімітів і регулювання короткострокової оренди. Дані Європейської туристичної панелі підтверджують: Корфу та інші грецькі острови залишаються у зоні найвищої інтенсивності й сезонності туризму, а отже, і серед найбільш вразливих до дисбалансованого туризму.

Corfu is rapidly transforming from an idyllic island retreat into a testing ground for tourism overload. By the end of 2024, the island’s airport handled around 4.34 million passengers — and in July 2025 alone recorded a record 927,899 arrivals (+3.7% year-on-year), mainly from the UK, Germany, and Italy. The island’s seaport is keeping pace: between January and April 2025, 64 cruise ships docked there, bringing nearly 89,000 tourists — a 79% increase compared with the same period the year before. Over 110 additional cruise calls are already scheduled for the autumn. The result: overcrowded streets in the UNESCO-listed Old Town, traffic gridlock, and mounting pressure on municipal infrastructure. In 2024, the municipality even declared a state of emergency due to drought; by summer 2025, the government had allocated funds for water management projects to help ease peak strain on the water supply. Island authorities are changing the rules of the game — targeting wealthier visitors and the premium market. Five-star hotels, boutique stays, and tailor-made travel experiences are intended to curb mass influx without cutting revenues. Greece is also introducing a new levy on cruise passengers and preparing restrictions on the number of daily disembarkations in popular ports. Local residents are making their voices heard — joining Europe-wide protests against the “tourist invasion,” demanding strict caps and tighter regulation of short-term rentals. Data from the European Tourism Panel confirms that Corfu and other Greek islands remain in the highest-intensity and most seasonal tourism zones — and among the most vulnerable to the risks of “imbalanced tourism.”
