Перший місяць літа на острові Сонця, як ще називають Кіпр, розпочинається найвідомішим фестивалем країни – фестивалем черешні, який цього року відбудеться 15-16 червня. У червні настає сезон дозрівання цієї соковитої ягоди, що символізує щедроти літнього сезону. У селищах Кампос, Педулас, Платаністаса та Трейс Еліс місцеві жителі запрошують гостей прогулятися черешневими садами, пригощають солодощами та напоями до складу яких обов’язково входить черешня. За усталеною традицією найбільші святкування відбуваються у селищі Педулас, в окрузі Нікосія, що розташоване на висоті 1 100 м у горах Троодос. Педулас відоме своїми 12 церквами - від каплиці XIV-го ст. до собору 1930-х р. Найвідомішою з них є церква Архангела Михаїла, яка є об'єктом Світової спадщини ЮНЕСКО.
The hostess of summer - cherry - invites to Cyprus
The first month of summer on the Island of the Sun, as Cyprus is also known, begins with the country's most famous festival, the Cherry Festival, which this year will take place on 15-16 June. June is the ripening season for this juicy berry, which symbolises the bounty of the summer harvest. In the villages of Campos, Pedulas, Platanistas and Trace Alice, locals invite guests to stroll through cherry orchards and treat them to sweets and drinks that always include cherries. Traditionally, the biggest celebrations take place in the village of Pedoulas, in the Nicosia district, located at an altitude of 1,100 metres in the Troodos Mountains. Pedoulas is famous for its 12 churches, ranging from a 14th-century chapel to a 1930s cathedral. The most famous of these is the Archangel Michael Church, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
