Cyprus marked the 51st anniversary of the Turkish military invasion of 1974, a pivotal event in the island’s history that led to its prolonged division.

On April 1st, Cyprus commemorates the anniversary of the 1955 national liberation struggle, when the National Organisation of Cypriot Fighters (EOKA) launched an armed resistance against British colonial rule.

Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides participated in an informal expanded meeting in Geneva, convened by the United Nations Secretary-General, to address the longstanding Cyprus issue.
