Sleep under a Rembrandt: an unusual night in the museum awaits the winner
The National Gallery in London is launching a unique opportunity — a chance to spend the night in the heart of its exhibition space. For the first time in the institution’s history, one lucky visitor will be able not only to view the iconic collection but also to fall asleep beneath some of the world’s most celebrated paintings. This once-in-a-lifetime experience is part of a prize draw marking the reopening of the newly renovated Sainsbury Wing and the gallery’s 200th anniversary. The winner will be treated to a luxury bed set up within the gallery itself, preceded by an elegant dinner for two at the brand-new Locatelli restaurant. After closing hours, they will enjoy a private tour led by Christine Riding, Director of Collections. The tour will showcase a sweeping timeline of Western European painting — from medieval icons to modern masterpieces. The next morning, the guest will have the entire gallery to themselves for an hour before the official public opening. To enter the draw, participants must be over 18 and subscribed to the National Gallery’s newsletter by 6pm on April 28. Organisers say the bicentenary offers the perfect moment to reimagine how the public connects with art — through a more intimate, unhurried, and deeply memorable experience.
