1922 року саме в Парижі вперше надрукували книгу «Улісс» ірландського письменника Джеймса Джойса – безперечно одну з найвідоміших книг ХХ століття. І коли увесь світ святкує 16 червня Блумсдей, у французькому осередку Джойса в англомовній книгарні «Шекспір і компанія» на вулиці Бушері, 37 у 5 окрузі Парижа теж щороку відзначають цей день: читають книгу, віддаючи данину унікальному стилю та ірландському гумору автора. Тут пропонують сандвіч із горгонзолою та келих бургундського, як це робив головний герой «Улісса». Неподалік звідси знаходиться колишня адреса першої незалежної книгарні "Шекспір і компанія" на вулиці Одеон, 12. Її власниця, Сильвія Біч була першим видавцем "Улісса" у 1922 році. Тоді мадам Біч люб’язно дозволила Джойсу працювати у крамниці. Загалом Джойс прожив у Парижі 20 років і з того часу місця творчості та життя письменника у французькій столиці перетворилися на туристичні маршрути. Bloomsday in Paris
In 1922, it was in Paris that the Irish writer James Joyce's Ulysses was first published, undoubtedly one of the most famous books of the twentieth century. And when the whole world celebrates Bloomsday on June 16, the French Joyce center in the English-language bookstore Shakespeare and Company at 37 rue Boucheri in the 5th arrondissement of Paris also celebrates this day every year: they read the book, paying tribute to the author's unique style and Irish humor. The place offers a gorgonzola sandwich and a glass of Burgundy, just like the main character of Ulysses did. Not far from here is the former address of the first independent bookstore, Shakespeare and Company, at 12 Odeon Street. Its owner, Sylvia Beach, was the first publisher of Ulysses in 1922. At that time, Mrs. Beach kindly allowed Joyce to work in the store. In total, Joyce lived in Paris for 20 years, and since then, the places where the writer lived and worked in the French capital have become tourist destinations. Among the 19 addresses: Chez Francis Restaurant, 7 Place de l'Alma in the 8th arrondissement with a great view of the Eiffel Tower; Les Deux Magots Coffee House, 6 place Saint-Germain-des-Pres, one of the oldest coffee houses in Europe, where Joyce gave interviews.
